Full guidelines
What every Kind Steps user agrees to
The numbered rules below are the one-source version of the guidelines. If this page changes later, this route should stay the main source the rest of the site points to.
-
Natural Circulation
Kind Steps exists to track the natural, geographic circulation of currency. Any bill you enter must be returned to circulation through ordinary, everyday transactions like paying for groceries, leaving a tip, or buying a coffee.
The following are not natural circulation and are prohibited:- Handing entered bills directly to friends, family, or coworkers for the purpose of generating a re-entry or “hit.”
- Mailing or otherwise transporting entered bills to other users, or to distant locations, in order to manufacture geographic activity.
- Any pre-arranged exchange of bills between known parties.
In short: spend your bills the way you would any other cash, in ordinary transactions with people or businesses unknown to you.
-
Marking Bills
Kind Steps does not encourage the defacement of currency. If you choose to mark a bill, you must do so in a manner that does not render it “unfit to be reissued” under applicable United States law, including 18 U.S.C. § 333. Excessive marking, mutilation, or any alteration that obscures the denomination, serial number, or security features may constitute a federal offense, the consequences of which are solely your responsibility.
Always follow the “Enter, Mark, Spend” order — EMS:- Enter the bill into the Kind Steps database.
- Mark the bill, if you choose to do so.
- Spend the bill.
Marking a bill before entering it deprives the next finder of any traceable history. Entering a bill after spending it produces out-of-order hits and may forfeit your credit. Always follow EMS.
-
Acquiring Bills
You may acquire bills for entry by any lawful means, including withdrawing cash or requesting straps of new bills from your bank, receiving cash as ordinary change in daily life, or entering bills currently in the possession of a household member, provided that member does not subsequently re-enter the same bills.
Theft, robbery, counterfeiting, or any other unlawful means of obtaining currency is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination of your account, in addition to whatever consequences may follow under applicable criminal law.
-
Bulk Distribution and Dumping
You may not enter a large quantity of bills and then deposit, exchange, or otherwise dispose of those bills in a single transaction at a bank, retailer, or other institution. This is not natural circulation.
It also tends to attract the attention of staff who are unfamiliar with the service and, particularly if the bills are marked, may prompt questions you will be left to answer alone. Kind Steps will provide no assistance, defense, or representation to users who place themselves in such situations.
Any user identified as engaging in bulk dumping will have their account terminated.
